The third gastronomic concept inaugurates to continue delighting and surprising Puerto Ricans, located at the innovative entertainment center
San Juan, Puerto Rico (MAY 2021) – DISTRITO T-Mobile announces its third gastronomic opening, Sazón Cocina Criolla, an authentic Puerto Rican cuisine restaurant. Through its ambiance, decoration and concept, the restaurant presents the evolution of our culture in its effort to dazzle and entertain the public in a unique way, a community who seeks and enjoys avant-garde experiences.
Sazón Cocina Criolla, joins the recent openings of Barullo Taberna Española and Mexican restaurant Lupe Reyes as part of the complex’s tiered pre- opening plan. This process is focused on gradually making the space known to Puerto Ricans, and then launching it internationally, which will make DISTRITO T-Mobile the most innovative and main entertainment center in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
The restaurant is located in the heart of DISTRITO T-Mobile, which is known as la Plaza Central (Central Plaza), a futuristic 50,000 square foot covered outdoor plaza with a modern multi-sensory technology system that will soon celebrate its opening. Sazón Cocina Criolla focuses on authentic Puerto Rican food, featuring fresh fish and seafood. In addition, its varied menu brings the best of our modern gastronomy at affordable prices, with daily specials and fixed dishes such as mofongos rellenos, paella jíbara, meat cuts, red snapper, conch, shrimp, or lobster asopao and Caribbean lobster, among others. Appetizers have been selected to delight diners from the start and will include a special menu of hand-made pernil, shrimp or pastelón empanadillas. Regarding the drink options, the restaurant has a large selection of wines, local and international beer, and a variety of spirits and liqueur, in addition to a cocktail menu created to pair perfectly with the local dishes’ menu. “We are very proud to spice up (‘ponerle sazón” in Spanish) this innovative project. Especially, having fresh fish and seafood as the protagonists, because as I always say, we live on an island, seacoast is everywhere, and Puerto Ricans love to eat a good dish with fresh fish. Sazón will definitely integrate local food at DISTRITO T-Mobile, which we Puerto Ricans love so much,” according to Javier González, Sazón Cocina Criolla’s operator and Cayo Caribe San Patricio’s co-proprietor.
Just like all other DISTRITO T-Mobile concepts, the design and experience play an important role for developers of this unique space. “In a modern way, Sazón represents, the essence of Puerto Rican ambiance.
We have an outdoor terrace and bar with the best view to DISTRITO T-Mobile’s main stage and the Plaza Central’s multi-sensory experience. We have placed Sazón in this space because we want to reaffirm that Puerto Ricans are the heart of this project,” said architect Hans Moll-Stubbe, managing partner of PRISA Group, the concept’s developers and proprietors. The restaurant’s interior space projects Puerto Rican tropical ambiance through structures and artistic expressions such as the painting “Todo Bien” (Everything is Fine), created by Puerto Rican artist Jorge Zeno, who through his artwork reinforces that “after living through difficult times, everything will be fine.” In this project, every corner has been carefully designed. There are various paintings by Puerto Rican artist Camila Buxeda, who used watercolors to represent classical elements of local culture such as plantains, quenepas, rum, limbers, coffee, avocado, greca (Puerto Rican coffeemaker), among others.
In addition, an impressive 15-foot mechanical red snapper structure is displayed above the bar, created by artist Mark Rivera, who through kinetic art represents one of the main dishes on the menu. This artwork is used to announce the beginning of happy hours.
The concept, developed by PRISA Group and whose investors are PRISA Group and McConnell Valdés Consulting, will occupy approximately 3,300 square feet, with an initial investment of $1.7 million. It can potentially accommodate 160 people, will generate 70 direct jobs, and will operate daily from 4:00PM to 10:00PM. The restaurant will soon open for lunch. “We are very happy that with Sazón Cocina Criolla we now have three restaurants operating at DISTRITO T- Mobile. COVID-19 Protocols
As far as COVID-19 rules and protocols are concerned, to guarantee all visitors’ and employees’ safety, DISTRITO T-Mobile is operating under safety protocols according to the local government’s most recent Executive Order, which among others includes temperature taking, supply hand sanitizer and compulsory use of face masks. In addition, it has outdoor areas where customers can feel safe while they have a good time, and interior spaces are lined up to guarantee the necessary space among diners.
